Chapter 3, 9, 10 Presentation
While
watching Group 1 getting ready to present I was filled with excitement and made
sure I was paying attention to what they said as best as I could to fully
understand what they were presenting. Group 1 was presenting chapter 3 which
talks about culture, culture appreciation, and culture diversity. They went
over how cultures have their values and what they experience when another
culture has discomfort communicating with them, or culture shock. They also
covered Dominant culture which is when a place has a determined culture which
is most popular in that area, also co-cultures which are cultures who share
some similarities with the dominant culture but have its diversities and is on
a much smaller scale. Lastly, they went over communicating barriers which
covered barriers like stereotyping, anxiety, assumed similarity or difference
and incompatible norms and values. I was amazed at how well they flowed in
between each slide and they were able to continue talking without stopping or
stuttering. They were able to cover all that is chapter 3 in a very short time but
still giving a very detailed and elaborate explanation on all the topics they
provided.
Group
2 Introduced their topic which was chapter 9, communicating in groups with ease
and made it very clear and to the point. I felt as if they had rehearsed each
of their part’s multiple times and new exactly what they were going to say
before they said it and explained any confusions that appeared. They began by
talking about families and the multiple types of families that are very common
like nuclear or single parent families. Following up after that was the
communication patterns between the families like a protective family which must
have an authoritative figure to establish it, while a Pluralistic family
emphasizes on letting the children do as they please to learn more and express
themselves more. Once they went over families, they covered social groups and
how people can act in a friend group such as being the “funny” one or the
“planner” or “the one who never responds”. They explain how most groups have
people like this and this is what makes up a social group. With these groups
they mentioned how groups can stay healthy by being interdependent, cohesive,
develop and abide by norms, have synergy, and are accountable for their own actions
and consequences. They finished up their presentation by explaining the
conflicts that happen in groups and their solutions. Some of these solutions
could be something simple or more complex depending on what conflict is
occurring. Overall, I liked how they explained each of their parts and provided
a video of them presenting.
Finally,
Group 3 covered chapter 10 which covers group leadership and problem solving.
Their presentation looked very pleasing and still was able to provide very good
information to the viewers. They mainly talked about the roles of group members
like task roles, maintenance roles, procedural roles and what each members role
is. To finish off they asked the other groups how they felt they presented and
what they could do better individually, and then as a group what mistakes they
made and what they could to better next time. I really liked the fact that they
did this since it involves all the groups into their own presentation which is
hard to do. Overall group 3 did a good job at explaining their chapter and
really showed themselves off.
Very nice writing. I liked your description of the presentations.
