Chapter 3,9, & 10 Presentations

Re-watching the recordings of the speeches on chapters three, nine, and ten, I feel that each group presented their chapters and sections very well. Overall, I learned a lot from these presentations as a whole. They each did a great job with selecting the information they provide to the rest of the class and did a very good job on using visuals and examples to help us get a better understanding of their topics. In group one, my group mates did a very good job at going into depth and explaining all the factors that go into intercultural communication. I always knew that every person or culture had their own set of values that they live by but I never really went into depth when thinking about one’s or my own values, and thought about the ideal and real values. My group mate did a great job at explaining these two different concepts in a very short and brief way. Although, I wasn’t actually there to present my part of the chapter, I feel that I did a good job at giving the information needed to understand what was in my sections. Other topics discussed in this chapter such as sex/gender, sexual orientation, religion, and so on were also covered pretty well by my group-mates. When it came to them explaining how cultures differ and the development of intercultural communication, they did a excellent job in talking about these topics and what goes into each subtopic. In group two, did a good job presenting their topics as well as also using visuals to help us understand their topics even better. They went over the different types of groups and how communication plays into that certain groups, an example would be support groups and how in a support group trust is needed to be able to use that certain group for its “purpose”. By that I mean that a support group is typically used to get through a hard time in a person’s life, but without communication there’s no trust which is also needed in a support group to truly help get through their tough time. They also covered the healthy factors of a group and the conflicts groups typically could get, which they did a wonderful job at explaining in their presentation. Another topic they talked about was the stages of group development, which I felt was important to understand when looking at how groups formed or forming a group of your own. When it comes to group three, I feel that they did a great job in explaining the leadership and problem solving aspects from really any type of group. They did a good job at explaining the different types of roles and the different types of people that go into those different roles. Another thing I feel like was really useful to learn about was how to basically run an effective meeting and how much work can typically go into running an meeting, also what the other people in the meeting that aren’t “running” should do in this time while listening to the leader. The last thing talked about in this chapter that I learned from was how to really solve a problem, when they talked about the problem solving aspect I really felt like they did a great job at explaining this topic and going into each step. As mentioned before, overall I feel that each group really did a great job at explaining the material and can’t wait for future presentations.
