First blog for chapter 3,9,10 (by: Manuel Iglesias)
Starting off the speeches I believe my group did a great job presenting chapter 3. The presentation all together was put together very nicely. I believed we did a great job putting it together and speaking, nevertheless. When it comes to the actual content of the chapter we went over and explained culture and how it’s the way of life. With culture comes its real and ideal values which were explained with good examples. They went over what culture shock was and ways to avoid and adapt to it. To add to that, my group-mates explained the dominate cultures (which are the norms held by the higher group in society), Co-culture (Group of people within a large culture who hold the same values), and cultural identity. My grouped also talked and provided great examples for ethnicity, sex and gender, and religion. Something that I never knew of about till I read this chapter was about low and high uncertainty avoidance. This chapter also showed me that we aren’t set in stone by society’s norms. That could be towards gender, belief or values. Instead we should become more openminded to the fluctuation of culture today. Now moving onto Group 2, I believe their presentation on chapter 9 was visually pleasing to the eyes. I l thought the presentation was very well put together; I genuinely loved the format they had for the presentation as well. They went over the numerous types of groups which were the social groups, support groups, families, group comms, service groups and finally work groups. They also talked about the pros and cons of having a heterogenous group and homogenous group. Heterogenous being the group with diversity and homogenous being similar knowledge and perspective. They also covered the effective work team goals which conclude reaching/achieving a common goal. The goal will not be easy to come across. To reach the goal a great amount of teamwork must be put into play. Group two also shows great examples of virtual groups and healthy groups. What I personally enjoyed was when the group went over how to deal with conflicts in a group. In conclusion, they go over that no matter the occasion achieving your group goal is possible. Being that everyone puts enough effort in. I also like the touch of jeopardy at the end it was nice. Finally, for group 3 their presentation was also aesthetically pleasing to look at. They had my attention the whole time throughout the presentation. They had to write about chapter 10 for the project. This chapter went over leadership as a whole. Meaning what leadership is and the task they have. Group 3 also went over the different types of leaders. I learned about the maintenance roles like supporter, Interpreters, harmonizers and etc. I learned a whole lot about the leadership responsibilities as well. I think this group did a great job showing videos that related to the topic and explaining how to have an effective meeting. Finally, I liked how the group explained how to solve a problem in a group and come up with an alternative. I found that this information will definitely help me for the future.
I also agree that this information is very helpful. Very nice reflection!!
